Anyone call for Artillery?

So here is my Master of Ordnance for my Company Command Squad. He shares some of the same gear and uniforms as the Platoon Commander and Trooper to his left and right resepctively. He's still wet from a badab black wash, but wanted to get him up here. Once he's finished and dried, I'll get some other shots up here. The ammo in front of him is from the resin bombs and booby traps that GW put out a bit ago.

Manticores on Medusa?

Here is a quick update, a few shots of my Manticore, and some WIP of the Co Command Squad and some mortar teams.

First, I'd like to thank Raghnall, of Guardians of Mankind for his suggestion of Testors Dullcoat for my army. I used it on my stormtroopers and it worked great. Thanks!

OK, now onto the Manticore.

She needs more detailing, but could be used on the table today. I thought about magnetizing the Storm Eagle Missiles, but decided against it based on difficulty. What I did was glue a small piece of plasticard onto the rear missile rest so that it would slide inside the missile and hold it in place. It works good, although the missiles can be a bit wobbly with rough handling.

Next the company command squad.

You have Col Straken, a Lascannon team (BS4!) a sniper, a medic, and two body guards.

Next we have 3 mortar teams that are very WIP.

So that's it for now, plans include a Vendetta for some additional anti-tank, and a pair of hydra's. Sorry about the picture quality, my main computer is being used for WoW and off-limits for me. Also the last few pictures were taken with my phone....

Captain Smith I presume?

Here is a couple of shots of Capt Smith, who has been reduced to a Platoon Commander as Col Iron Hand Straken (or more likely a twin brother) will be taking command of the regiment. Nothing seems to bother Captain Smith, not even the loss of his left arm. I would be careful not to spill his coffee however.

He needs a bit more work, but is definately "table-top" ready.

"Iron Hawk" Ready for Lift-off

Here is the nearly finished Valkyrie, Iron Hawk. She will be one of many I expect for this Army, as I love the model and dislike Leman Russ tanks. This is also appropriate for a regiment that was forced to leave much of its equipment behind when it left Medusa V. The right rear fuselage section was replaced in haste as the crew and hurried to make the last lift off of Medusa V. Had the repairs failed, the crew and passengers would have been stranded and met a horrible end as the warp storm engulfed the planet. The crew has since refused to have it fixed, and keeps it the same grey paint scheme as the unfortunate donor craft. She has been in a few scraps of late and has a few bolted on repair plates.

Gotta love those long barrelled heavy bolters!

Assault Marine WIP

So here's my first Raven Guard Assualt Squad member WIP. I'm not totally displeased with the pose, but I'm hoping to make the others look even more dynamic. I got 4 that were pre-built and this is one of them so I was unable to twist the torso any. And yes I know the picture sucks almost as bad as my WIP painting...

My thoughts on employment is to avoid any shooting upgrades for these guys, since I plan to have them run all they can and then use fleet to get into combat.

Looking for a star to guide them...

With all the great kits coming out for the Space Wolves, and my experience over that last few years playing them, I have to ask myself this question. Is the army I have collected and built, the army I want to play with?

What I am saying is, instead of buying a few of the new cool items and adding them to my substantial force, I am going to try and re-think and re-invent the army.

Huh? or Why?

Right now I carry 4 GW Drop Pods and 1 Scratch Built Dreadnaught Drop Pod in a standard GW case, Most of the rest of the army is in s standard Army Transport. I have two 2" foam trays that are filled with Fen. Wolves and Terminators that don't fit anywhere.

I'd like to pare down the army so that it would all fit in the one Army Transport plus the GW case.

My intial thoughts when building the force.

13th Company-ish. They have left the fang after their revered commander died and the company was split over his successor.

Love the GW Drop Pods!

Embrace the Nordic/Viking/Wolfness of the Codex.

Play Sagas as if the recommendations were hard and fast rules

Must have Blood Claws and Grey Hunters!

All Squads Must have a Wolf Guard Leader!

Questions as I move forward:
  1. Should I include any non-Deep Striking Vehicles?
  2. How many points do I try and fit in the two cases?
  3. How do I balance the Elite's slot?
  4. How much do I plan to spend?

Land Speeder Storm with magnetized Scouts

How do you make modeling a Land Speeder Storm harder? Make the scouts removable. Not hard enough? Make them metal scouts and have them clip onto bases when dismounted...

So, I'm building a new Army, and want to include at least 2 Land Speeder Storms. Here are a few shots of the first one. The scouts are old metal scouts that are magnetized to the Land Speeder and to special bases.
